The five time winner of World Boxing Championships, Mary Kom is the only sportsperson in North-East India to win an Olympic medal so far.

President Pranab Mukherjee on Thursday congratulated boxer Mary Kom for winning the bronze medal in London Olympics and said her feat should inspire all sportspersons of the country.

In his message Mr. Mukherjee said that this is a great achievement and should inspire women as well sportspersons throughout the nation .

Meanwhile, Manipur Government has announced a cash reward of 50 lakh rupees for the London Olympics bronze medal winner M C Mary Kom. State Government has also announced promotion of the ace boxer to the post of Additional SP in Manipur Police.

AIR Imphal Correspondent reports, Manipur Government has also announced allotment of two acres of land at Meitei Langol in Imphal to famed pugilist Mary Kom to realize her dream of starting a state of art boxing academy in the state.

Admiring the success of the boxer, state Chief Minister Okram Ibobi Singh hailed the Olympic bronze medalist as a truly outstanding sports person and daughter of India who has brought a befitting honour and glory to the nation.
