DIMAPUR, Aug 7: The 60 legislators of Nagaland who arrived in New Delhi on Monday had urged the Prime Minister of India to finalise an acceptable solution for the Nagas before the state assembly elections due in February next year.
Sources from Democratic Alliance of Nagaland (DAN) government in Kohima informed Newmai News Network today that the 60 MLAs of Nagaland cutting across party lines have met Dr Manmohan Singh and Union home minister Sushil Kumar Shinde and urged them to finalise a solution which is acceptable and honourable by February next year.
The 60 MLAs are also slated to meet NSCN-IM leaders in the next two days, said the sources.
Over 40 NSCN-IM leaders are camping in New Delhi currently while engaging in informal talks with the central leaders.
Formal talks are likely to resume soon.
The NSCN-IM had earlier said its focal point is on how our objective and goal is to be concretized based on interdependent relationship between the two entities and shared sovereignty is an option at this given situation.
It can be noted here that under the aegis of the Naga Hoho and the Eastern Nagal Peoples Organisation (ENPO), rallies will be held in later part of this month in all the “Naga areas” to urge for the early settlement of the Indo-Naga political conflict. Churches in “Naga areas” are also planning to conduct special prayers for the early settlement of the vexed Indo-Naga political conflict.
Amid this development, the NSCN led by S.S Khaplang had stated few days ago that “only sovereignty for the Nagas” will be accepted.
The ` official declaration` signed by chairman of the NSCN-K S.S.Khaplang which was made available to Newmai News Network on July 30 said,” With regard to the possible political solution within the Indian Constitution, the NSCN/GPRN (NSCN-K) will reject it unless it is a sovereignty of the Nagas.”
Reacting to this declaration, former `home minister` of the NSCN-IM Rh. Raising when contacted by NNN said “all are for the Naga sovereignty.”
Rh. Raising seems to be commenting on tactical and strategical point of view which was to mean that any agreement minus Naga sovereignty will always be considered as an interim arrangement.
It is worthwhile to note that the outgoing Union home minister P Chidambaram had told the media on Tuesday in New Delhi that the talks between the NSCN-IM and New Delhi had reached a `sensitive stage.`
This agency had earlier reported that a series of informal talks between the government of India and the NSCN headed by Isak Chsi Swu and Thuigaleng Muivah have been going on in New Delhi. However, the formal talks will begin within a few days, according to a source from New Delhi.
Former military chief of the NSCN-IM V.S Atem, however informed Newmai News Network that the formal talks will begin any time from now. “We have made a lot of progress and the dialogue is in a crucial stage,” disclosed hard talking V.S Atem.
When queried about the likely time for inking the agreement between New Delhi and the NSCN-IM, V.S Atem said it would be very difficult to predict such thing. “I can only say that the talk is going well and has reached a crucial stage,” said the NSCN-IM leader.
