IMPHAL, August 18: In regard to the present panic situation faced by northeasterners created mainly due to false rumors, North East Forum, Hyderabad (NEFH) states that there are no unwanted incidents happening in the State.
Spokesperson of the Forum, Sham Khumanthem intimated IFP that to prevent mass panic among the northeast students and to take up cautionary measures, a meeting was held yesterday and a body titled “North East Forum, Hyderabad” was formed.
Retd. IPS officer C Pouthanga was selected as chairman, Reverend Paothang Haokip as secretary, L Samauel as joint secretary and Sham Khumanthem as spokesperson.
Members of the Forum met the state’s DGP, DGP (Law and Order), Additional DGP and the Police Commissioner. The officials were intimated of the present scenario happening at Bangalore and Pune. It was further assured by the officials that maximum efforts will be taken up in the State to safeguard the northeastern students and further appealed to maintain calm.
The DGP also immediately instructed the police stations to remain vigilant and to prevent untoward incidents from happening. It was also instructed to effectively address any complaint lodged in the regard.
It may be mentioned that there are about twenty thousand north-easterners in Hyderabad.
