IMPHAL, Aug 4: The Joint Students’ Coordination Committee today called a press conference at the Kwakeithel office of the SUK today appealing to the state government to exempt the schools from the August 13 state holiday.

Briefing media persons, convenor L Umakanta said instead of the schools being closed on the day, it would be more benefitting for the students as well as the state if patriotic song competitions, debates, quiz and other competitions on the patriotic themes are organized at the schools.

As the schools remain close on the Patriotic day, the young students are unaware of why the day is being observed in the state, which is an undesirable development, he said.

While appealing to the people of the state not to organize any entertainment programmes on the day, the student bodies further dictated all schools to remain open on the day.

He added that the student bodies will consider any school remaining closed on the day as going against their diktat.
