Police abuse alleged

IMPHAL, August 16: Oinam Subol, a resident of Oinam Mamang Leikai told reporters in a press conference held at Manipur Press Club today that the concerned OC , namely N Premchand had threatened him inside the police station by using abusive words and further favoring the perpetrator of an accident.

His elder brother, Oinam Rajo, 55, was cycling along Irengbam crossing, Oinam along the Tiddim road on August 14 at about 8.30 am. A car bearing MN0IX-3701 came speeding down the highway and after skidding hit Rajo.

The victim was referred to Shija Hospital for treatment and one of his left rib bone was broken.

The matter was taken to the police by Rajo’s family members and the OC asked only one of the family members to come inside the station. As Oinam Subol went inside,the OC charged that whether his brother was intentionally victimizing himself for suing the driver and whether there was proof that his brother was innocent.

Outraged at the OC allegations, Subol stated that the police should find out the facts, but however he was intimidated by the OC. The officer also refused to register a case and let the driver go scot free. The driver of the car is an AE of the Minor Irrigation Department, Bishnupur.

In the regard, UPF , general secretary Bikramjit stated that the case was a clear case of favoritism carried out by the officer and victimization of the innocent victim and family. He appealed to the concerned home minister to check the errant OC and further to transfer him from the area.
