Police investigating railway assault

IMPHAL, August 28: “The case in which a Manipuri youth was assaulted by four men inside Goa Express on August 25 soon after boarding the train from Nizamuddin railway station in New Delhi has been taken up seriously”, said a release of the North East Support Centre & Helpline.

It said the Railway Police is investigating the case and the culprits are on the run.

“Thanks to Robin Hibu, Joint Commissioner of Delhi Police for helping the victim as well as the North East Support Centre & Helpline immensely.” 

“The case of the 24-year-old Manipuri boy who was beaten up by four men inside a Goa-bound train on August 25 was registered the next day. The case has been registered in PS Hazrat Nizamuddin railway station, New Delhi under section 3940/34 of IPC 1860”, it continued.

”Soon after the North East Support Centre & Helpline team informed the matter to Robin Hibu, Joint Commissioner of Delhi Police, he immediately sent a team of police who brought the victim to Safdarjung hospital for medical examination on August 26 evening”.

“A case of robbery and assault was registered. Police have taken the statement of the victim, the FIR has been forwarded to railway police,” said Robin Hibu.

“The stolen mobile phones are under surveillance. I had spoken to railway senior cops about the incident and approached MPs for more security on trains. Visible patrolling started at the railway stations in Delhi,” he added.
