Manipur, IMPHAL, August 9: The State Government has announced a cash award of Rs 50 lakh to Olympic bronze medalist Mary Kom following her achievement.
A cabinet meeting held today further announced promotion of Mary Kom to the post of Additional SP status and allotting her two acres of land at Meitei Langol Village.
Mary Kom is the first individual from the north east to have won an Olympic medal and the Chief Minister has hailed her as the “Truly outstanding sportsperson and daughter of Manipur who has brought glory and honour to the State”.
Meanwhile, Chief Minister of Assam , Tarun Gogoi has also announced a cash award of Rs 20 lakh to the pugilist and further mentioned that if Mary Kom is willing to open a boxing academy at Assam, then the government will fully support her motive.
