UKHRUL, August 18: The oldest government run Higher Secondary School in Ukhrul District, Ukhrul Higher Secondary School (UHSS) has been functioning for the past four years without a Principal or a Vice-Principal for almost 4 years.
What has made its condition worse is the random irregularity of the contract lecturers, affecting the careers of altogether 749 students.
The matter was disclosed during a press conference at the school conference hall by the Hunphun Katamnao Long, HKL (Ukrul Students Union)
The press conference was also attended by the students` as well as social leaders including the leaders from Tangkhul Katamnao Saklong (TKS), Tagkhul Mayar Ngala Long, TMNL (Tangkhul Youth Council), Hundung Students` Organization (THYSO) public leaders` sector, representatives of the Education Department and the Principal in-charge along with staffs of the school.
Answering queries about the irregularities of the lecturers, R RIngkahao, a senior lecturer, UHSS who shoulders the posts of the Principal said that the lecturers seem to be unhappy as the government has not extended their contracts and most of the lecturers in the school are contract lecturers.
He further said, service order and delay in payment of their salaries sometimes for even more than five months is another factor for the unavailability of the lecturers.
He further contended that once the government fills in the two vacant posts of Principal and the Vice Principal, the condition in the school could be a lot better.
Meanwhile, a student of the school Wisdom while expressing the grievances of the students said, the students of the Classes XI and XII numbering around 250 have not been taught even the Chapter one of their Physics subject.
He added that his class has not even seen the face of the lecturer so far.
A student of XII (Sc) Sochihan expressed that classes of Chemistry and Physics subjects have been totally `abandoned` after the lecturer had appeared just once.
