IMPHAL, August 21: “I want to be a renown shuttler”, says L Unilkumar after winning the U-15 sub junior boys’ singles title at the 57th State Open Badminton Championship at the MBA, Indoor Hall, DM College campus today.
Unilkumar defeated Meiraba in straight sets 21-9, 21-11.
Speaking to media persons post match, he said he would like play in the national and international champioships.
The class VIII student however added that the training he receives in the state is not enough to win even the national championships.
Unilkumar who have also won the U-10 championship in 2008 and 2009 says that his favourite player is China’s Li Dan.
He had even tried a smash shot of Li Dan during today’s final match.
Meanwhile, in the Junior Girls’ Singles U-19 final N Purnima defeated Y Dhanabati by 21-14, 21-17, while in the Junior Girls’ Doubles U-17 final, M Somibala/N Purnima defeated Y Dhanabati/Puja Kamei by 22-20, 21-10.
In the Junior Boys’ Singles U-17 semi-finals Yaitomba I defeated RK Devjit by 21-15, 21-10, while in other semi-final H Thoithoi defeated Y Malemnganba by 22-24, 21-18.
Midget boys Singles’ U-13 final O Aimson will meet Meiraba L.
