IMPHAL, August 23: The Zhifiimai (Phaibung Khullen) Village Authority Council has asked for the government’s intervention in regard to the RIPEN NREGS related crisis at Phaibung Khullen.
According to a release of the Zhifiimai (Phaibung Khullen) Village Authority Council, the NREGS Scheme which envisages rural development according to its own pace, needs, convenience and priority has not been working out right as it should ever since its inception and implementation in respect of Phaibung Khullen Village.
“Internal divisions and confusions with serious consequences cannot be ruled out in the near future unless proper and timely intervention is made by the concerned authority,” it said.
“The utter disregard of the village resolutions and also the NREGS implementation guidelines of the Government of India, the incumbent chairman and secretary, whose term of office has also expired since January, 2012 has neither conducted any general meeting nor audited the NREGS fund received from the date of assumption of office till date,” it further said.
“As per the village resolution, the half yearly meeting should have been called in the month of August 2011 and the Annual General Meeting in the month of January 2012. Both the meeting never took place and without assigning any reason whatsoever. Inspire of the repeated request by the villagers as well as by 9 out of the 13 VAC members for fresh VAC election as well as audit, the stone hearted chairman remained ever indifferent and unmoved to and by the call,” it added.
To save the village from this turmoil and from further deterioration, it is beholden on the part of the authority concerned to contain the problem encircling the village with appropriate measures, or more precisely by conducting necessary audit and VAC election, which is long overdue under its supervision, it appealed.
