IMPHAL, Aug 8: The Nongdam Kuki and Louphong village today organized a photo session to show the condition of the displaced and resettlement issue of the Mapithel Dam (Thoubal multi-purpose project).

Speaking to this IFP reporter, the Nongdam village secretary said that his village is just 50 metres away from the multipurpose project and as such the village has become a danger area and prone to sinking and landslide.

He said around 56 houses (mostly from his village) have been displaced since 1991 at the foot of the dam.

He said only the Nongdam Kuki and Nongdam Tangkhul villages have been compensated with a paltry amount of just Rs 3000 to Rs 15000 per household by the state government through the IFCD.

He further pointed out the villages lying inside a 60-70 metre from the reservoir of the project as Louphong, Phaijang, Nongdam Tangkhul, Nongdam Kuki and Maphou villages.

The village secretary also said that the government has deployed 23rd Assam Rifles at the village and as such his village is unable to expand further.

He continued that that the village had already submitted the villagers concern over the project and demanding rehabilitation for the affected persons to the state government.
