IMPHAL, September 9: As part of its continuous effort to make Manipur a hundred per cent achiever in voluntary blood donation movement, a combined voluntary blood donation camp, jointly organised by the Association of Voluntary Blood Donors, AVBD, Manipur, and the NSS unit of Don Bosco College, Maram and Blood bank, JNIMS was held at the College’s premise at Maram, Senapati district today.

Altogether 77 voluntary blood donors, including students and faculty members of the college donated their blood, also known as “gift of life”.

Speaking during the inaugural function, founder president of AVBD-M Dr L Tomcha Khuman, stressed the importance of donating blood early in one’s life.

This, he said, will fill the gaps and the scarcity of donated bloods in the state and encouraged all to help people in need even if the actual recipient of the donated blood may not have the chance to acknowledge personally.

Don Bosco college, Rector Father K Sebastian, also spoke on the occasion and quoted a saying in Christianity that there is a belief that the right hand shouldn’t know what the left hand is doing and said we should continue to do good deeds, yet we shouldn’t expect anything in return.

Earlier on September 7, the AVBD also organised awareness campaigns on voluntary blood donation, Kh Samarjit Singh, secretary AVBD-M stated in a statement to the press.

A total of 167 students participated and experts spoke on several topics including basic blood science, benefits of voluntary blood donation and blood banking.

The AVBD-M statement also expressed gratitude to several institutions for their help including State Blood Transfusion Council, Manipur and Manipur State AIDS Control Society.
