IMPHAL, September 22: Even though the counting of 4th GP election in the state had been completed some four days back; demands for repoll continue to haunt the state authorities.
Supporters of Monshangei GP Pradhan candidate K Shravan Kumar today staged a sit in protest at the Keishampat Leirembi Community hall.
The protestors further submitted a memorandum to the Chief Minister demanding repoll before September 24 and action against the Wangoi Returning Officer.
Earlier this week on September 18 a day after the results were declared, scores of people had blocked the Mongshangei road alleging manipulation during the counting of ballot papers of the Mongshangei GP 10/3/1 polling station.
Later supporters of the defeated Pradhan candidate had also taken out a meira rally on September 19 evening in the surrounding area of the GP.
Several supporters today sat on a dharna at the Keishampat Lairembi Community hall starting since 10 am. Later around 3:15pm, police had to barricade the protestors in front of the Nupi Lal complex from marching towards the Chief Minister’s bungalow.
A smaller group of the protestors were however allowed to submit their memorandum to the CM.
According to the protestors, in the memorandum they have demanded a repoll before September 24 and action against the RO at the earliest or to face democratic agitation.
Meanwhile, the memorandum condemned the election procedure of Returning Officer Wangoi saying that according to the ballot paper account report, the total number of casted ballot papers for the pradhan is 701, while in actual, the number of ballot papers found inside the counting hall was 705.
Meanwhile, a sit in protest was held at Kongba, protesting the recently declared results of Uchekon Nongchup gram panchayat election as unfair.
The protest was staged alleging manipulation in the counting of votes of the 14/13 Ucheckon Nongchup Gram Panchayat.
The protestors demanded repoll of the 14/13/6 Ucheckon Youth Atheletic Club and action against the Porompat RO.
The protestors alleged that even though the total numbers of ballot papers found in the ballot box of 14/13/6 Ucheckon Youth Athletic Club was recorded at 494, after counting it has been reported as only 475 votes.
The protestors claimed that there is a loss of 19 ballot papers which the authorities should come out clean on at the earliest.
It further warned of another form of intense agitation if the government does not looked into the matter seriously.
