IMPHAL, Sept 23: The 3rd Eunice Kennedy Shriver Day (EKS Day) was observed today at the premises of Social & Health Development Organization, Chingarel Tejpur.
A press release made by area director, Dr M Yedhachandra Singh stated that the celebration was organized by Special Olympics Bharat -Manipur Chapter under the theme-“Play Unified to live Unified”.
President of Special Olympics Bharat -Manipur Chapter M Akshayakumar Singh, Ex. Member, M Kesho Singh and Secretary of Social and Health and Development Organisation Y Dhanabir Singh graced the function.
The dignitaries of function spoke about Special Olympics movement around the world and the inspiration, impact and indomitable spirit of Eunice Kennedy Shriver, the founder of Special Olympics.
The 3rd EKS Day is being observed to bring people with and without Intellectual Disabilities together with families & friends to participate in a day of inclusive sport and play.
A unified Bocce competition of 4 teams (each team comprising of one athlete with Intellectual Disability and one without disability) was also conducted during the observation.
Gouminsei Haokip (without disability) and Sofia Thangjam (with intellectual
Disability) secured first position whereas Machunlu Palmei (without disability) and Anil Kumar Salam (with intellectual Disability) got the second.
The 3rd Position goes to Priya Kasa (without disability) and Marina Yumnam (with intellectual Disability) sharing the title with Rephen Palmi (without disability) and Joychan Meishnam (with intellectual Disability).
About 200 persons from Namjaklung High School, Sawombung Gate; Sairem Khunou,
Special School for Disabled, Chingarel Tejpur and family members attended the celebration.
