IMPHAL, September 25: An accident involving a Bullet tanker and bolero jeep this morning around 8:30am at Garampani, Assam about 2 km far from Kanchipura police claimed four lives including the driver of the bullet tanker who is said to be from Manipur.
The bullet tanker driver has been identified as Kh Inao Singh, 37 son of Chaoba of Khurkhul.
The tanker’s owner has been identified as K Hemanta Sharma.
Explosions mark RPF raising day

IMPHAL September 25: On the occasion of the 34th Raising Day of the outlawed outfit Revolutionary People’s Front, RPF/People’s Liberation Army/PLA, several bombs exploded and planted at different sites of the state since early morning.
A powerful bomb exploded early this morning around 5:30 am at a spot just behind the CSD Canteen, located at M-Sector near the Raj Bhavan. No one was hurt, expect the damages on the walls on the northern side, police sources said.
A little earlier, prior to the explosion at M-Sector another bomb went off at Khwairanpam Lamkhai, under Bishnupur police station at around 5:15. No one was hurt or injured in the blast which happened near the 6/8 JR Territorial Army camp located nearby.
Police sources further revealed the recovery of a powerful IED early this morning at around 5:30 am by a team of 30 Assam Rifles from the side of the road at a place near Moidangpok Maning Leiaki, near Sunshine English school under Patsoi police station.
Later, around 7:10 am, a police bomb squad defused and recovered the IED and safely detonated at a safe place. Experts identified the IED as a PEK 2 kg and the other as PEK 2 and a half kg bombs. Splinters including nuts and bolts besides nails would weigh around 5 kg in total, police source said.
According to a late report, a grenade was hurled inside the residence of Pungshungbam Bimola, a former Pradhan of Imphal east at Achanbigei Mayai Leikai at around 11:00 pm yesterday. The grenade failed to explode and no one was hurt. Later police recovered the grenade, sources added.
KCP captured
IMPHAL September 25 : A combined team of Thoubal district commandos and 15 Assam Rifles personnel captured a cadre of KCP Noyon faction identified as Altaf Khan, alias Abo, 23, son of Rafiuddin of Lilong Turel Ahanbi Dam during a search operation from a place near Tangjeng area at around 9:45 am earlier on September 23, a statement said today.
The superintendent of police, Thoubal district listed the items recovered in a statement including a 9 mm pistol, 5 live rounds, a mobile handset and two sims. A demand letter signed by s/s finance secretary Tomthil Meitei was also recovered from his possession, the statement added.
The SP further revealed, the captured KCP cadre was involved in the blast that took place at NRL oil pump located at Thoubal Haokha earlier on June 5 this year.
State to observe World tourism day
IMPHAL September 25 : Like in the rest of the world, the state of Manipur will observe the World tourism day under the theme “Tourism & Sustainable Energy : Powering Sustainable Development” with the department of tourism hosting a programme at Hotel Imphal on September 27.
In a statement, Ningthoujam Geoffrey, director, tourism stated it’s purpose is to foster awareness among the international community of the importance of tourism and it’s social, cultural, political and economic value.
The event seeks to address global challenges outlines in the United Nations Millennium development goals, MDGs and to highlight the contribution the tourism sector can make in reaching these goals, it added.
All over the world, tourism is one of the largest economic sector and has taken important steps towards the future including improving energy efficiency and increasingly using renewable energy technologies in its operations.
These steps, the statement said are creating jobs, lifting people out of poverty and helping to protect the planet.
