IMPHAL, Sept 4: The state Governor, Gurbachan Jagat has conveyed his heartiest greetings and wishes to the people of the state and specially to the teachers’ community on the occasion of Teachers’ Day, 2012.
A message of the Governor said, “The Teachers` Day is celebrated every year on September 5 to commemorate the birth day of late Dr Sarvapalli Radhakrishnan, former President of India – a great humanist, scholar, philosopher, educationist and above all an outstanding teacher”.
“In the ancient times in the Gurukula system, Gurus played a pivotal role in shaping the character of their shishyas and the shishyas had high regard for moral values. Unfortunately, this accent on moral values has been gradually eroding.”
Therefore, the teacher community, besides educating the students, should strive to sensitize the young minds to these values, and the students on their part, should devote themselves to their studies so as to shoulder the responsibilities to be reposed in them by the society in due course, the statement said.
