IMPHAL, September 3: An Impoverised Explosive Device explosion this early morning around 6:30am killed a 23 year old youth at Nongpok Keithelmanbi Makha Leikai under the Yairipok police Imphal East.
According to a reliable source, the explosion victim has been identified as Sanabam Tonjon alias Mani, 23 son of S Gopen.
It is learnt from reliable sources that Tonjon had unknowingly triggered off the IED when he took out some woods from his front veranda this early morning. The boy died at the spot.
However, how the IED was planted inside the house is yet to be ascertained till the filling of this report.
Meanwhile, decrying the explosion, locals including womenfolk came out to the streets and held a public meeting at the local playground and formed a JAC.
The JAC further submitted a memorandum to the state Chief Minister through the local MLA, Th Shyamkumar demanding ex-gratia for the bereaved family and an investigation on the explosion.
The dead body was later recovered by the Yairipok police and handed over to the JNIMS mortuary for post mortem.
