IMPHAL, September 26 : On the occasion of the 61th death anniversary of Hijam Irabot, various civil societies and institution located in different corners of the state and outside the state observed the day with programmes varying from blood donation to song competition.
The organising committee of the Hijam Irabot Memorial, HIM Trust Manipur organised a function at Pishumthong Oinam Leikai, Nongthomba Leirak Statue complex, Irabot road, Imphal.
Floral tributes were paid to the statue by the participating dignitaries and later speeches were made by experts and other resource persons and elaborated on his life.
Several spoke on the life history and achievement of late Hijam Irabot and urged one and all the need to continue our effort to bring about change in the society and bring peace and equal rights to all.
Meanwhile, Nongchup Imphal Loumee Sinmee Chaokhat Thourang Lup, Imphal West organised the 61st Ningshing Thouram on the topic “Lamyanba Irabotna Mapal Lamgi Yawolloisingna Leinaramba Mari” at Lamdeng Awang Leikai Community Hall, Imphal west today at 1 PM.
Several spoke on the contribution made by Hijam Irabot during his stay outside the state of Manipur. Most speakers emphasized on his contribution to bring about a change and especially to spread the awareness on human rights issues.
Irabot always emphasised the need to be able to stand on our own feet and prescribed self help as the best help.
In another late report,the Handicapped Development Foundation, HDF Manipur organised the 1st state level integrated litrary meet in connection with the death anniversary of Hijam Irabot earlier on September 24 at Tera bazaar, a statement said today.
