Manipur, IMPHAL, September 14: A powerful TNT laden remote controlled IED was recovered from the residential quarter of 25 BRTF CO and SE (civil) Mohanlal at Lamphel this morning around 8:15am by the gardener.
A team of the Manipur Police bomb squad retrieved the powerful explosive and safely diffuse it in front of the 25 BRTF hq at Lamphel at around 11am today.
The IED was found wrapped in a white polythene bag fitted with a detonator, electric circuit and two TNT explosives weighing 200 gram each.
Speaking to media persons, the gardener, Gautam Sahni, he had found a polythene bag on September 13 morning.
Thinking the package to be garbage, he said he threw it over the compound walls adjoining the main road.
He continued that yesterday evening he was asked to inform the sentry on duty if he found any suspicious items.
This morning he checked the parcel again and informed the sentry about it. The sentry told him that it looks suspicious and asked him further to take to the HQ.
Noticing wires peeking out of the polythene, the personnel threw it out of main gates and informed the nearby Lamphel police.
Soon after a team of the Lamphel police after arriving at the scene restricted entry into the area.
Imphal West cdo DSP Krishnatombi, Addl SP Herojit and Lamphel OC Ingocha also arrived and inspected the site.
An expert of the bomb said that the recovered TNT is a powerful explosive and had a destruction radius of 100 metre.
Lamphel police has registered an FIR and taken custody of the explosives.
Meanwhile, a personnel of the BSF was injured in an explosion which occurred this evening around 4:15pm at Heirok Part II Ningthoujam Leikai.
The injured personnel has been identified as a head constable of 116 F Coy BSF, Rohtosh Kumar, 42 of Rajasthan.
He suffered splinter injuries on his neck and was admitted at the Thoubal District hospital and later referred to RIMS.
Meanwhile, the nature of the explosive could not be ascertained till the filling of this report.
