Leimarol celebrates Deaf and Dumb

Manipur, IMPHAL, September 26: The Lions Club of Leimarol, Imphal commemorated the International week of the Deaf and Dumb by organizing a painting competition at the premises of the Deaf and Mute School, Takyelpat for their students on Sunday last. The International Week of the Deaf (IWD) is observed annually during the last full week of September. The purpose of IWD is to draw the attention of politicians, authorities and the general public to the achievements of deaf people and the concerns of the deaf community. During this week, organisations of deaf people worldwide are encouraged to carry out information campaigns about their work, and to publicize their demands and requests. This week also increases solidarity among deaf people and their supporters, and is used as a time to stimulate greater efforts to promote their rights throughout the world.

The results of the competition are as follows, for category 1, 1st rank is Dhananjoy of Class 8, L Romen Singh of class 9 and Dhangmei Dina of class 9 came second and third.

For category 2,first prize went to Bobycha Singh of class 5, L Monica of class 6 and L Rebika Devi of class 6 came second and third.
