Mason kidnapping condemned

IMPHAL, September 5: The All Manipur Democratic Women Front has vehemently condemned the kidnapping of two masons by unidentified persons.

Speaking to media persons at a press conference at its office at RIMS road, S Madubala, vice-president of the front, said that the front vehemently condemned the kidnaping of two masons for ransom by unidentified persons even though they were released yesterday.

Urging the state government to take up immediate steps to prevent such crime in the future, she said, such crime towards the marginalized section of people has created a fear in their minds when they go looking for jobs. How are we support to interpret the meaning of basic right of ‘right to life,’ after hearing such incidents, she questioned.

The front has further urged the state government to punish the culprits who are involved in the crime.

Meanwhile, it may mention here that two masons kidnapped for ransom, Elangbam Gandhi, 32, son of Itomba of Bamon Kampu Khaidem Leikai at present staying at Lamdeng Khunou and Laishram Somorjit, 22, son of Doren of Laining Khul, Lamsang were freed by their captors yesterday morning at about 9 am.

The duo was abducted by three gun wielding persons on August 19 from the workshed located at the premises of Maklang Junior High School.

They were engaged as masons for repairing the building infrastructure and abducted for a ransom of Rs 20 lakh.

Their release came post a sit-in-protest organized by meira paibi at Sagolband Nera Menjor Mamang Leikai on Sunday.
