IMPHAL, September 13: In the wake of police tightening up security measures in Imphal areas after the recovery of a Chinese hand grenade yesterday wrap with polythene bag inside the Old Secretariat campus, a suspected militant was killed during an alleged encounter by Imphal West Police commandos at Hiyangthang last night.
According to reports received by IFP from the police, the incident happened last night at around 10:15 pm at Hiyangthang near Mayai Lambi Service Station under Wangoi Police Station in Imphal West district.
When a reporter of IFP inquired about the incident to the locals of Langthabal Phuramakhong, which is north near of where the incident happened, they said that they first heard the sound of a bomb blast and soon after heard several rounds of firing.
However, according to police, a youth have been killed by the commandos of district police in an encounter.
The decease person is believe to be under 30 years of age and from him they recovered a country made pistol with two live rounds and a Bajaj Pulsar bearing registration number MN-06S/A-0785 blue in colour.
The death body of the decease person has been kept at RIMS morgue for further identification and to conduct post-mortem.
