Need for unity echoes AMKIL foundation day

IMPHAL, September 8: The Apunba Manipur Kanba Ima Lup, AMKIL observed its 12th foundation day at the Lamyanba Shanglen, Palace compound today.

The observation was attended by Archives Government of Manipur, Deputy Director Dr K Sushila, Apunba Manipur Kanba Ima Lup, vice president Yumlembam Mema and social activist, Maloti Leima as chief guest, president and guest of honour respectively.

Several others also spoke during the observation as resource persons. Manipur University, Manipuri department prof Nahakpam Aruna spoke on Nupishingda chatharakliba meeyot meenei, social scientist Dhanabir Laishram spoke on North East Kee Meeyamda Mainland India na Yengliba Mityeng and Freedom Editor, RK Ranendrajit on Khunaida ollakliba phibhamsida Imasingna Lougadaba Thoudang.

Speaking during the observation, Dr K Sushila said bomb explosions and violence on women and children continue unabated in the state, the local dailies are full of such stories.

She continued that the people of Manipur have been facing only difficulties after merging with India.

It is high time that the people retrospect the recent exodus of NE people from other parts of the country and find its root cause.

Yumlembam Mema in her presidential speech lamented that the Manipur government has become a puppet in the hands of the Centre and knows only to beg for funds from the Centre.

She continued the government cannot even control all the violence in the state and added that the government has been trying to choke the meira paibi movement in the state.

The people of the state should unite together for a better tomorrow, she said.
