IMPHAL, September 1: Neither gun nor ammunition were recovered from the premises of Sajiwa Central Jail on August 17, according to jail authorities.
In a clarification issued today the SP (Jails) IK Muivah has vehemently denied the recovery of a gun and two rounds of ammunition on the day two mobile handsets along with Sim cards were recovered from the jail septic tank.
He further clarified that, as of now no CRPF personnel is deployed in the jail premises and that the perimeter security is being manned 4th IRB personnel, while the inner layer is being manned by Jail staff and VDF personnel.
About 20 police commandos are kept as standby outside the jail for tackling emergency cases of possible rioting and for supervision during locking and unlocking, he added.
It may be recalled here that, prison riots in 1998 and 2008 had led to injuries and large scale damage to jail properties.
