Police fires tear gas to disperse mob

IMPHAL, September 19: Porompat police had to resort to firing tear gas shells today to a mob from damaging several houses at Kshetri Bengoon Mayai leikai this afternoon around 2pm.

Police confirmed that they have also picked up two for instigating violence; however police refrained from disclosing the identities of the two.

Family members of the house which were attack told media persons that a violent mod led by former Principal Secretary AR Khan came out and attacked their houses without any confrontation.

They continued that the incident started after AR Khan and some of his supporters pelted stones at four houses who are his immediate neighbours. They however lamented that they were surprised by the violent action of the former state officer and further lamented that they had no inkling whatsoever about the motive behind the attack.

Soon after pelting stones on their rooftops damaging a Maruti van bearing regd no MN 01K 3180 which was parked inside a garage in one of the houses, AR Khan came down with a huge mob welding dangerous arms including firearms and started attacking the houses.

Soon after the family members of the four houses went out and confronted the mob.

In between the confrontation, police arrived at the scene.

One of the family members also alleged that the mob fired three rounds of gun-shot, provoking the police to fire several tear gas shells to control the mob and arrested two individuals from the residence of AR Khan.
