Rafting expedition to study Imphal River

IMPHAL, September 13: The Youth Adventure Forum of Manipur and Healthy Women Society are jointly organizing a rafting expedition from Khuman Lampak Youth to Mayang Imphal (Imphal River) on September 16.

The co-sponsors of this expedition are www.e-pao.net and Thingnamcha Steel Industries, Sangakpham. Councillor of Imphal Municipal Council ward no 3, Hijam Nutanchandra will flag off the expedition at 7 am. A total of 45 rafters including 20 women rafter will take part in the expedition.

Senior water sports coach, Nolini Yumnam, who is also a member of The Great Indian Women rafting voyage, will lead the team in the expedition. The team is also aiming to make a short documentary film on Imphal River.

The organizers are further planning to screen the short documentary film and a photo exhibition on Imphal River in the coming last week of September.

The report and pictures of Imphal River collated during the expedition will be submitted to the concern department of state government.

The aim and objective of the expedition are; to study the water pollution and its effect to human being; to study the Imphal River and its bank in Imphal areas including Lilong and Mayang Imphal; to give awareness to general public not to bath and wash of cloth in Imphal River, throwing waste to Imphal River and its effect as the water from the river is used for drinking by thousands and thousands of people in rural areas; to demonstrate rescue techniques etc.
