IMPHAL, September 9: The Centre for Organisation Research and Education, CORE expressed concern over the prolonged non-rehabilitation and resettlement of the eviction victims of Lamphel Yaipha Leikai, Imphal west and urged the state government authority to ensure immediate rehabilitation process.
In a statement issued to the press, CORE pointed out that it a clear violation of human rights and further expressed concerns regarding the current status of the affected villagers including women, children and elderly people with respect to their access to shelter, clean water, sanitation and education for the children.
The state government is “insensitive” and lack human rights approach towards the affected people when eviction and other forms of untold miseries to the people is brought about in the name of development, the statement said and added, innocent peoples are made to suffer and pay the price of development supposedly taken up for their welfare.
The statement further pointed out, Manipur State Women Commission has turned down the complaint of affected women of Lamphel Yaipha Leikai and expressed concern over the ineffective response to the memorandum submitted to the chief minister of Manipur for necessary action.
We have no state commission on the rights of children, the statement said and added, the Manipur Human Rights Commission is “non-functional”.
