IMPHAL, September 7: The United Gym Manipur held a sit-in-protest to express their apathy on the partiality of the Govt of Manipur towards body builders against other world champions in various field of sport.
The sit-in-protest was also held as an introduction of Arambam Boby Singh, a two times World Champion in body building and also a high achiever in other International as well as National Championships.
Speaking to the media person, S. Dhruba, Chief Coach of organization explained that there hasn’t been much initiative from the govt. side to encourage body building and that it is slowly diminishing as a sport.
The govt. hardly provides any sport incentives to body builders and citing the example of Arambam Bobby Singh, he further explained that even though he have achieved so much in the field, he is barely recognized as a World Champion.
When he achieved the title of Mr Universe in the World Body Building Championship for the first time in 2010, he was presented with Rs 2 lakh by the govt.
However, when he achieved the title again in 2011, there were no initiatives from the govt. for any kind of incentives or whatsoever.
Therefore, the organization appealed for initiatives from the govt for sport incentives towards the body builders as well as this will encourage the youth to take part in such sport.
