SIU nab fake extortionist

IMPHAL, September 10: A team of Special Intelligence Unit managed to capture a person while trying to extort from a shop. He was masquerading as a KCP cadre.

According to sources, a demand letter for 5 lakh was served to a shop selling utensils at Thangal Bazar, namely Rupak Agency some time back. The police sleuths in their drive to check violence and other anti-social activities around the Bazar areas came to know of the extortion demand.

They laid in wait t the area by disguising themselves as porters and rickshaw pullers. Afterwards, at about 1.30 pm today, a person was moving suspiciously around the area. The SIU team led by Inspector Ranjit mentioned him to stop but later fled the spot. The man was chased down near PC and Jain store.

Afterwards, the man was hauled up for further questioning. He identified himself as one KCPcadre namely Adikarimayum Charairongba,35, s/o Ibomcha of Nagamapal RIMS road at present staying at a rented house at Thangmeiband Hijam Dewan Leikai.

Police recovered a 9 mm bullet sanctioned for security personnel only. A driving license mentioned the name of the criminal. It identifies the person as Adhikarimayum Charairomba, s/o Ibomcha of RIMS Road.

One bullet along with an envelope was seized from his person.
