IMPHAL, Sept 6: In view of the forthcoming Panchayat election and to ensure and conduct a peaceful election, all licensed gun owners are directed to submit their guns at their police station on or before 9 September 2012.
In a statement issued to the press, N Ashok Kumar, district magistrate, Imphal west ordered all licensees of the district to deposit their arms and ammunitions to the concerned police station as a precautionary measure and maintain law and order in the state.
The order, directed as per power conferred under Arms Act 1959 came following the announcement made by the Election Commission to conduct the Panchayat election on 13 September, 2012.
The statement stated, any individual who wished to appeal against this order may submit a written application for retaining his licensed arms and ammunition to the office of the district magistrate during office hours from 1 pm. to 3 pm and added, the licensees may withdraw their arms and ammunition immediately after the election process.
