IMPHAL, September 4: Alleging that state government officials have failed to perform its duty towards the deplorable condition of many government run educational institutes, various student’ bodies have been conducting various inspection tours in the state.
Speaking at a press meet today at SUK office at Kwakeithel Thokchom Leikai, vice president of Students’ Union of Kangleipak, Santosh Lai said that a team of SUK conducted field inspection tour of educational institutes in Imphal East District yesterday. Conducting such inspection tour aims to provide better and affordable education system in the state, he said.
He continued that during the inspection they have found Wakha Model Primary School building in a deplorable condition and running with four teachers and 48 students. The school has classes for standard one to six.
But during the inspection, only some 13 students were found present and who are of different standards having their classes in one classroom, he said.
He further continued that out of the four teachers, only two teachers were found present during the inspection yesterday and the headmaster was also absent. But the head master came rushing to the school after he was informed about the inspection by one of the teacher. He was absent without informing the other staffs of school, he added.
Mid-day meal facility was not seen available for these students of the school and utensil were all un-usable with spider nets on it. The ZEO deducts 50 percent out of the allocated 80 kg share and the school received only 40 kg of rice, he further added.
Further, SUK urged the state government to give attention not only to institutes in Imphal area but other rural areas too. If the school continues to run in this deplorable condition, the school will not produce any bright students, it added.
