JIRIBAM, September 22: The All Jiribam Meira Paibee, AJMP today appealed the URF to withdraw its monetary demand impose on the United Bank of India, Jiribam Branch and allow the bank to function normally.
The AJMP held a meeting this evening around 3pm at its office during which it was unanimously decided to appeal the URF to withdraw its demand.
The Jiribam branch of the UBI has remained closed since 10am of September 19 following a monetary demand from the militant outfit.
Citing that the people of the sub division would suffer a lot if the bank is shifted to another place, the AJMP further appealed to the militant outfit to help in preserving the only bank of the sub-division.
The bank is the only place where the people of the sb division can avail several pensions, including widow’s pension, old age pension, the AJMP reasoned out.
Today’s meeting was also attended by All Jiribam United Club Association, AJUCA, Jiri Development Organisation, JDO, All Jiribam Meira Paibee, AJMP, Jiri Ima Meira Paibee Apunba Lup, JIMPAL and WAKAK president and Gen Secy.
It may be mentioned that the bank has remained closed since September 17 following monetary demands made by the militant outfit. The bank is situated just 100 meter east of the Jiribam Police station along the NH 37 and guarded by Manipur Rifle personnel.
CP Joshi gets additional charge of Railway Ministry
NEW DELHI, Sept 22 (ANI): Union Minister for Road Transport and Highways C.P. Joshi has been given the additional charge of Ministry of Railways.
Joshi, a Member of Parliament from Bhilwara, occupies the position, lying vacant after the resignation of Mukul Roy.
Roy, a Trinamool Congress (TMC) leader, submitted his resignation to Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh on Friday.
Roy was among the six cabinet ministers of TMC to resign after party chief Mamata Banerjee decided to part ways with the ruling UPA coalition, citing government`s “anti-people” policies as the primary reason for the move.
