IMPHAL, October 17: The Namching JAC has decided to call indefinite blockade and bandh along the Imphal Jiribam highway from October 23 against the eviction order of Namching village by Assam Rifles.
Sit in protests were today held at three different areas along the Imphal Jiribam highway against the government’s proposal to evict the villagers of Maha Kabui Namching village for constructing an Assam Rifles camp.
The sit in protests were held at Maha Kabui Namching village by the women folk of the Namching village, Konthojam Maning Leikai Leingam Khul’s waiting shed by the tribal womenfolk Konthoujam Maning Leikai and in Namthajang (Khonglong) part 2 waiting shed by the womenfolk of the Khonglong and surrounding areas.
Speaking to the media an executive member of the women wing P Zaisha said that womenfolk of the Namching village had stopped the SDC Kanchup from entering the village who had come for survey of the said land after a order by government of Manipur on 18 September.
She further said that not an inch of land of the Namching will be spared to the government or the Assam Rifles as it is their ancestral land which belong to them and where they grew up.
She further said that land which the government has order for eviction is mainly agricultural area of the Namching villager from where there grew vegetable and fruit for their daily lives.
She also stated that the Manipur Land Reforms Act cannot be practiced in Namching village which is under Senapati district. It is in total violation of act and against the indigenous people of the area.
Regarding this JAC will today submit a memorandum to the state Chief Minister, Home minister, IFCD minister, Commissioner (Hills) and the Senapati DC.
