Hamlet Shougrakpam`s acrylic paintings steal the show in Delhi

NEW DELHI, October 12 (MIC): A week-long exhibition of paintings entitled Sudden Wave by two artists namely Hamlet Shougrakpam from Manipur and Satya Prakash from Chhattisgarh at Lalit Kala Akademi, Ravindra Bhavan, here  came to end today with  positive notes  of the sophisticated art collectors   and art enthiasts of the national capital Delhi.

All the twelve paintings of Hamlet Shougrakpam displayed in the exhibition were in acrylic medium with bright colour. Of the 12 paintings, two paintings depicted the nature in autumn, one deity in abstract form and nine paintings with different expressions of the woman figure.

Hamlet described the woman was the most beautiful and attractive animal on the earth and she was surrounded by many living and non-living objects. He said that he chose the acrylic medium for its versatility to create the object an impact. He sold two paintings at the rate Rs. 25000/- per piece, one piece at  Rs.35000/- and another  Rs 45000/- during the exhibition. One Delhite and three Mumbaites  bought one piece each. Earlier, he sold his  paintings at Rupees fifty thousand to ninety thousand  per piece according to the size of the paintingand its quality.

He said, “I prefer strong, vibrant colors to describe my feelings for the subject. I research and develop my paintings in a continuous process. Moreover, it evolves in every painting. These paintings are the reflections of my mind. I get pleasure from the inspiration and process of my work.”

He will take part in the  group exhibition  to be held from November 26 to December 2, 2012 at Bandra Kurla Complex in Mumbai with 14 acrylic paintings.

Hamlet Shougaijam left home in the year 2006 to make himself an established artist and settled temporarily at Rohtak to get frequent accessible to the National Capital Delhi for exposition of his works.

Born in the year 1966 at Irom Meijrao, Hamlet Shougaijam was the son of Dolkeshor and Kulapchaobi. He studied Diploma in Fine Art and Crafts, and then Diploma in  Painting from Visva Bharti Santiniketan in  1987 -92  and stood top in Diploma in Painting. He completed the Post Diploma in Painting in 1992-94 with the first class first from the same University.

Earlier, he participated in Academy Of Fine Art Annual Exhibition, Kolkata in 1987, 1990, 1991, 1992 and 1993;  Annual Exhibition Of India Society Of Oriental Art Kolkata, 1990;  “KALA MELA” Organised By Birla Academy Of Art & Culture, Kolkata, 1990;  Annual All Indian Art Exhibition of AIFACS, New Delhi in 2000, 2001, 2008, 2009, 2010 and 2011; and in many Manipur State Kala Akademi Annual Art Exhibitions.  His first and second solo exhibition was held at Jawahar Kala Kendra, Jaipur in 2007 and 2010; and third solo exhibition at AIFACS, New Delhi  in 2011.
