IMPHAL, October 16: A non Manipuri who reportedly abused a 10 year old child in Kangpokpi has been arrested by the police.
The arrested non Manipuri has been identified as Sambhu, 29 years, from Uttar Pradesh from a district called Gorakhpur. Both the victim and Sambhu were living together at Kangpokpi and the minor has been identified as Ajay alias Rahul, 10 son of Takeshore also from Gorakhpur.
According to sources, the abuse began after Sambhu got re-married to his second wife. Upon repeated torture, the minor Ajay had run away on October 12 and boarded a bus towards Senapati from Kangpokpi bazar bus parking.
Locals at Senapati helped him filed a police complaint and he was ultimately referred to the Child Welfare Committee, Senpati district after which Sambhu was arrested by the police at Man arrested for child abuse4:30 pm.
In his statement, the minor stated he was made a false promise that he would be given a sum of Rs 1000 per month plus his education initially. And when Sambhu failed with of his promises besides frequent physical abuse, the minor then decided to leave the place for good and escape the daily torture.
The minor is now under the care of the Manipur North Economics Development Association, sources added.
