IMPHAL, October 24: Unidentified gunmen shot dead a 60 year old mason at his residential gate last night at around 8.10 pm at Heingang Panthoibi Lampak under Heingang Police Station in Imphal East district.

The deceased has been identified as Mutum Kulapi Meetei, 60, son of (L) Yaima of Heingang Panthoibi Lampak.

Speaking to media persons, wife of the deceased, M Sanahanbi said her husband is a mason by profession.

Last night he had gone out to see a music concert held at Panthoibi Lampak nearby his residence. After some time a local came to her home and told her that his husband is laying in a pool of blood at their residential gate. After which family members along with the local rushed him to a nearby hospital but succumbed to his injuries on the way to the hospital, she said.

She further said that at first they thought that her husband might have had an accident. But when a team of Heingang police came for filling report informed them that the injuries are bullet holes. And that was how they came to know that her husband was shot dead.

Two bullet holes were found from Kulapi’s death body, one on the forehead and the other in the neck. The body has been kept at JNIMS morgue for post mortem

She appealed to all concern to clarify at the earliest on why her husband was shot to dead in such an inhuman manner.

Meanwhile, locals of Heingang today staged sit-in-protest at Panthoibi Lampak and held a meeting, where a JAC was formed in regard to the incident.

The meeting resolved to submit a memorandum to the State Home Minister through their local MLA.

The JAC meeting resolution also include: to appeal the state government to take up all necessary action to maintain the deteriorating law and order situation of the state; immediate necessary action to arrest the unidentified gunmen/murderer of Kulapi within seven days time; and if the government fails to produce all those involved in the alleged murder case of Kuplapi within the time period, the JAC along with other organisation will launch various forms of agitation like protest rally, dharna and if necessary the JAC will call state wide bandh.

Convenor of the JAC, M Babita said, “the brutal killing of Mutum Kulapi is a act of terrorism and we want clarification in the earliest.”
