IMPHAL, October 25: A cadre of the NSCN (K) was killed during a fierce gun-fight with rivals NSCN (IM) yesterday evening around 6:30pm at Chunchamjang village Ward No 10 near Tamenglong Khunjoy some 5 kms north east from Tamenglong Police, sources said.
Sources further identified the killed cadre as one Lovingson Newmai, 19 son of Tajiangkambou Newmai of Kuilong Part I.
It is also learnt that the Tamenglong police have filed a case on the regard and recovered the dead body from the spot. The dead body has been later handed over to family members after post mortem was conducted at the Tamenglong district hospital.
Meanwhile, the Naga Peoples Movement for Human Rights, NPMHR in a statement has condemned the government for remaining silent on the unprecedented escalating armed conflict between various armed opposition groups in Tamenglong district, Manipur.
It has also said that NPMHR also expresses serious concerns on continuous defiant the wishes of people to maintain peace and respect the peace agreements between the non-state actors. The armed offensives between armed groups have entered in Tamenglong district killing innocent civilians, tortured and degrading treatments were meted out to villagers. The move of armed cadres brandishing assault rifles and other deadly weapons in the middle of the town where many school going children and innocent civilians were condensed, creating fear psychosis, curtaining all basic and fundamental freedom of the entire areas are but the acts of terrorism which cannot find a place in any of the progressive society including the Zeliangrong Naga. Many of the residents were force to dislocate from their home; the students of Jawahal Nehru Navodaya, a residential centrally runs school were force to leave their hostel jeopardising the academic session. uty inside the hospital, repeated loitering around hospital compound disturbing the normal functioning of district and only hospital in Tamenglong has put entire district at risk and jeopardise the health situation.
NPMHR call upon the Government of Manipur, district administration and laws enforcing agencies to act restore normalcy in the district. NPHMR also appeals armed opposition groups to stop hatred campaign against other groups and restraint from armed offensive and respect for public voices to maintain peace in the district. NPMHR urges both state and not-state actors to honour, values and respects humanitarian laws.
