SCERT Building Inaugurated

IMPHAL, October 8: State Education Minister M Okendro Singh today inaugurated the SCERT administrative building & multipurpose hall at Lamphel.

The function was organised by Directorate of State Council of Educational Research and Training.

The function was also attended by Retd Radio Asst Director, B Jayentakumar Sharma and Chief Engineer Edn Cell G Joychandra Sharma as guests of honour and Director SCERT, N Debala Devi as president.

Speaking at the function, M Okendra said that inaugurating the SCERT building is like a dream.

It is always a dream for the state government to have our education system at the utmost level, he said.

He continued that the SCERT acts like a mini university and further appealed to all concern not to disturb the normal working of the SCERT authorities with threats and extortions.

He continued the SCERT should be allowed to work freely to develop education in the state.

Further elaborating on the government’s steps to develop the state education system, he said through the TET, the government is aiming to appoint only good teachers so that more good students may be produced from the state.

He said last year around 40000 candidates had appeared in the TET, however unfortunately bandhs, blockades have hindered the government from conducting the exam in the hills.

Meanwhile, the Minister lamented that instead of building swimming pools in colleges, the UGC should concentrate more in building proper hostels for students from hills and other interior parts of the state.

He continued that the Ministry is holding meetings at the national level to bring free education upto class XII in the state.

He also added that the state government is trying its level best to bring in education tourism in the state.
