Speaking to media persons, convener ongjam Umakanta said that there has been an upsurge in the crime against woman in the state including rape and said it is quite disconcerting for the state and its people.
Expressing concern he said the government need to act up and added that all involved in such crimes should be punished according to the law and to discourage anyone from committing such crimes.
He continued that anyone found breaking the law or taking the law in their own hands should be punished accordingly.
If the government and all concerned authorities fail to take up necessary actions on the crimes committed, such crimes will only continue unabated and further added that families without strong backings are the ones who suffer today.
Meanwhile he further urged all concerned not to settle crimes in the customary way of the accused offering animals like pigs or money to settle the crimes. This kind of settlement only encourages the criminals he said.
