IMPHAL, October 9: The State Home Department today organized the 63rd Territorial Army Day at the 1st Manipur Rifles Banquet Hall where in PHE Minister I Hemochandra felicitated all the officers and other ranks of 165 Infantry Battalion (Territorial Army) (Home and Hearth) ASSAM, also known as the Manipur Terriers.
The function was also attended by Lt Gen RN Singh, Chief of Staff, Eastern Command and Colonel of the Assam Regiment and Arunachal Scouts, Officers and troops of 165 Infantry Battalion (Territorial Army) (Home and Hearth) Assam besides other civil dignitaries.
Speaking on the occasion, PHE Minister Heochandra said it is a proud moment for the state of Manipur to felicitate the `Citizens` Army and the Manipur Terriers is the first and only Territorial Army unit raised purely from the domicile of Manipur.
He said, “Raising of this unit has given a direction and impetus to gainful employment of youth of the state and further their involvement in the development of the state by taking part in provision of security to its citizens”.
He further remarked that the battalion has come a long way in helping the people of Manipur since its induction into the state in February 2007.
He lauded the Manipuri Terriers for performing their tasks admirably and setting high standards in all their performances.
Colonel K Biswas, Commanding Officer of 165 Infantry Battalion (Territorial Army) (Home and Heart) ASSAM in his vote of thanks assured of continuing the good work being done by the unit and in bridging the gap between the local populace and the security forces.
The 165 Territorial Army Battalion celebrates the Territorial Army Day on October 9 by organising various events. The highlight of the day was a cultural programme showcasing the various dances of Manipur by the soldiers and their families.
A cultural programme depicting the rich and traditional dances of the people of Manipur was showcased for the troops and their families of the Leimakhong garrison on October 8.
