IMPHAL, Oct 13: A rice laden truck along with the transporters was hijacked today while the handyman of the truck still remains untraceable.
According to police reports, the incident occurred at Henbung area of Senapati District and comes under the jurisdiction of Kangpokpi Police Station. The truck bearing registration number AS-OIDC-9743 came from Dimapur today carrying 300 rice bags.
As the truck was about one kilometer from reaching Henbung, two persons hitched a ride on the truck stating that they wanted a lift till Kangpokpi.
As the truck was paying toll tax at Henbung, another person who was waiting at the area came up on the truck. Later, the two hitchhikers along with the individual whipped out pistols and overpowered the driver. The truck was hijacked and driven to Changoubung , Kangpokpi.
The rice was later unloaded at the mentioned area. Later, on receipt of information regarding the hijack, Kangpokpi Police and 43 AR traced the truck. When the combined force reached the site, the hijackers fled the scene.The truck along with the rice were recovered from the spot. However, one handyman of the truck namely Sanir was abducted by the militants which are believed to belong to a Kuki group.
