IMPHAL, October 19: United Committee Manipur welcomes the ongoing developments of the decade long Indo-Naga peace process and the likely conclusion of the talks which would bring about peace and prosperity in the neighbouring state of Nagaland.

However,  the conclusion of the talks should not infringe on the administration or the territorial boundary of Manipur.UCM states that if the Indian Government decides to ignore the stance of the Committee and acts against the interest of the public, then the UCM will not allow national political parties from functioning in the State. Further, there will be another agitation stronger launched than the one of June 18, 2001 and will further demand a pre-merger status for the State.

The stance was announced by UCM President, Y Nabachandra at the head-office of the Committee located at Lamphel today evening. He further mentioned that the Committee acts according to the welfare of the state and not for a particular community or organization. Since its inception the UCM has been at the vanguard for protecting the territorial boundary of the State. The stance that the territorial integrity will never be compromised under any circumstances, he said.

The sentiments of the public and the UCM should be acknowledged by the national Political Parties operating in the State and their high commands in the Centre. If the wishes of the Manipuri public are not acknowledged, then the future outcome will not be good, UCM warns.

It was further stated that in the Naga Peace process, even if there should be no disturbance in the territorial integrity of Manipur, the stance of an ‘alternative arrangement’ or any form of compromise in the administrative system will not be entertained at the slightest. Such proceedings will obviously affect the communal harmony in the State.

The meeting was attended by UCM General Secretary, Joychandra Konthoijam and Public Relations Secretary Ng Deva.
