IMPHAL, October 24: Former Director Health Services, Dr Th Suresh today called a press conference at the Manipur Press Club today on the recent Supreme Court of India’s notice to the centre on withdrawal of Arm Forces Special Powers’ Act, 1958 from Manipur.
Speaking to media persons this evening, the former Director who is also the chairman of the Dr Suresh Centre for Foreign Studies said that the Dr Suresh Centre for Foreign Studies had filed a petition to the Supreme Court on September 19 with two prayers.
He continued that in the petition his organization had appealed for withdrawal of the AFSPA from Manipur and withdrawal of the Disturb Area tag from Manipur.
The executive bodies of the Dr Suresh Centre for Foreign Studies comprises of two members each from student bodies including the All Manipur Students’ Union, Democratic Students’ Alliance of Manipur, Kangleipak Students’ Association, Manipur Students’ Federation and three other professors from the Manipur University.
He continued that the Supreme Court had on October 19 sought a response from the state government before November 5 regarding its notice for the withdrawal of AFSPA from the state.
He also expressed his believe that the state response will meet the people’s expectation.
