Woman trafficker arrested

IMPHAL, Oct 13: A team of Narcotic Cell, Imphal East on Friday arrested a woman along with four kilograms of opium (kani) from near the Kanglatongbi war cemetery at around 4.30 PM.

The arrested woman has been identified as Nevei Doungel, 38, wife of Chabungbam Ingocha of Awang Keithel Manbi.

The arrested woman along with the opium was paraded before the media today at the office of the Officer-in-Charge, Narcotic Cell, Imphal East, Porompat.

Speaking to the media persons at his office chamber, Imphal East Narcotic Cell (OC), Inspector Geetchandra said after receiving specific information about the selling of contraband substance in and around the Kanglatombi area, a team of narcotic cell was deployed at different areas of Kanglatombi.

In the meantime, a woman came in a suspicious manner, on which an officer disguise himself in the form of a buyer and approach the woman and that is how she was caught red handed along with the four kilograms of opium from his possession, he said.

He further said that on questioning the woman revealed that the banned drug was brought from Saikhul and it was packed in four “everyday milk powder” packets a Kilogram each in every packet.  The seized opium is worth around two lakh in local market and in the international market it is worth around 10 lakhs, he added.
