IMPHAL, October 10: Commandos of Thoubal District Police today arrested two women activists of PREPAK along with 10 kgs of IEDs and eight lethod bomb shells during a search operation at Ushoipokpi Thongkhong area.
Briefing media persons, SP Thoubal, Dr Ak Jhalajit , said that as a preventive measure in the wake of serial bomb blast and rising day of two militants groups yesterday, starting from October 8 police have been conducting search operations in various areas and also have arrested some militants along with explosive devices.
Further, he said that during a search operation at Ushoipokpi Thongkhong area today at about 2:20 pm, the two women came in a suspicious manner holding a black lady hand bag on foot. They were stop for verification and checking on which explosives and bomb shells were found from their bag.
The police have identified the two arrested persons as Thiyam (O) Sunibala alias Abem, 27, wife of Th Mithoi Singh and Haobijam Naobi alias Nanao Devi, 23, daughter of H Lalaji alias Lalji Singh both from Khongjom Langthabal Khunou Mayai Leikai.
Four numbers of IEDs weight about 10 kgs, eight numbers lethod bomb shell and a mobile handset were recovered from their possessions.
On questioning, they disclosed that they are working under the command of s/s capt Nanao alias Nonocha of Kakwa Bokul Makhong and s/s sgt maj Laphoi of Lilong Thana Mamang, who are said to be explosive experts of the PREPAK organization, he said.
The two arrested persons were paraded along with the recovered items before the media persons at Thoubal Police conference hall.
While saying that it is very unfortunate for our society that women are involving in such cases, he appealed the general public to inform the police if any suspicious item is found on the road or locality or crowded areas.
