All India Cooperative Week Celebration ended today

IMPHAL, Nov 20: The 59th All India Cooperative Week Celebration 2012 was concluded today at the premises of ICM, Cooperative Complex, Lamphelpat. The closing function was attended by Registrar, Cooperative Societies; Manipur State Cooperative Union (MSCU); Institute of Cooperative Management (ICM), and NCUI-Women Cooperative Education Project, Imphal.

The theme of this year function was “Cooperative enterprises build a better world” and topic of stressed during the closing function was “Empowerment of women and weaker section through cooperatives”.

The closing of this week long function was also attended by President of MSCU and Chairman of ICM, L Tompikshak Singh and Parliamentary Secretary, Minor Irrigation and DIPR, Manipur K Meghachandra Singh as president and Chief Guest respectively.

Speaking during the function Parliamentary Secretary, K Meghachandra stressed the importance of co-operative movement to increase the employability for minority, weaker sections of society and peasant to secure a livelihood.

He further added that the concept of ‘cooperative’ is very much important and need to be installed in people’s mind for overall state progress. He further added that the government may not able to provide the different kinds of work people wish to do but the cooperative movement would somewhat help people to find suitable work.

He further added that the state would be ready to complete when the progress is in overall angles i.e. women, minority and rural population. Lamenting the challenges face currently by the people he said that the demand and counter-demand for homeland by different groups is a shame in front of budding students and young people. He further appeals the all the community to work concerted to bring peace and harmony in the state.

Giving the presidential address of the function, President of MSCU and Chairman of ICM, L Tompishak Singh have said that with a limited budget of 2 crore allocated for MSCU, the cannot do much for development of state cooperate sector.  He further added even though the ICM initiate different kinds of training programs, the student admitted in such training programs are very less. He further added the ICM have approach the concern authority to construct a hostel cum library to accommodate student from far places. He further added after the completion of hostel, many students from neighbouring state can also be admitted.

The closing function was also attended by state Commissioner, Cooperation, Govt of Manipur K Moses Chalai (IAS); Registrar, Cooperative Societies, Thaithuilung Pamei (IAS); Addl Registrar, Cooperative Societies, Th Manao and Chairperson, NCUI-Project Coordination Committee, Jeena Potsangbam as guest of honour.

Awards were distributed to the outstanding employees, students and entrepreneurs that includes; best employee award, best meritorious trainee award, best cooperative society, best cooperator of the year, best self help group etc, at the end of the function.
