Andro seeks justice for Babu

IMPHAL, November 7: A public meeting conducted today at Andro resolved to carry out carry out violent agitations if the culprits involved in the killing of Hijam Babu alias Ram Singh is not brought to justice.

It may be mentioned that Babu’s bullet riddled body was found near Lunghar village at Ukhrul on November 4. He was reportedly arrested by police commandos from his residence at Andro Kharam Lekai Dam Leicheng Khappham on November 2.

Decrying the atrocity, a public meeting was held at Andro Kangjeibung at the office of the All Andro Meira Paibi Association today morning. The meeting was joined by other organizations inclusive of Eastern Schedule Caste Students Union, Andro and All Andro Youth Clubs Association.

The meeting concluded at around 10.30 am and mentioned various resolves. It said that the State has witnessed various incidents of forced disappearances, fake encounters perpetrated after arrest.The excesses carried out by the security forces highlights the weakness in the state administration.

It was stated that the Manipur Government should investigate the murder of Bubu and award befitting punishment to those involved in the crime.He may have been a member of an outlawed outfit, but he should have been booked under the judicial system. The manner of his killing is an outrage to the public and defines the lawlessness of the State.

The Yairipok police still has not investigated the matter and this is another weakness of the police force. It was further resolved to urge the state government to institute a judicial inquiry into the incident failing which a public of the area is set to launch a series of violent protests.
