LAMKA, November 16: “Cooperative Enterprise built a better world”, is the theme for the 59th All India Cooperative Week Celebration 2012 conducted by the Manipur State Cooperative Union and District Cooperative Officer, Churachandpur which was held on November 16 at 11:00 AM at Hmar Veng Community Hall, Churachandpur.
Kamsuanlun, MDC who graced the function as chief guest stressed on the importance of cooperative enterprise in bringing about development in our society.
He said that cooperation is an engine of economy growth offering dynamic and flexible service and have a key role to play in the economic, social and environmental pillar of sustainable development.
He goes on to say that cooperative enterprise are instrumental in bringing about poverty reduction in the society and so cooperative enterprise are helping us build a better world.
He concluded by saying that this occasion must let us join force to help cooperative enterprise build a better world.
The District Cooperative Officer of Churachandpur, JamkhoseiBaite speaking on the occasion, highlighted the cooperative movement and its progress in Churachandpur District.
He said that after its inception in the year 1904 in South India cooperative movement in Manipur was started in 1937 and added that in Churachandpur District, it was started in and around the 1960`s. Till today many cooperative societies and NGOs have been registered in the office of the District Cooperative Society, with a combine total of 1596 societies.
In the current year the department is taking up two special program such as :1 Short-term cooperative credit scheme; 2 Special package for handloom weaving cooperative.
The department is also organizing a handloom mela at YPA Hall, Churachandpur and about 50 societies turned up to show their respective products, the district officer added .
