IMPHAL, November 28: A group of women from Khagempali Huidrom Leikai stormed Imphal Municipal Council office today at around 10 am, charging two councillors of Imphal Municipal Council of harassing a gardener, who works at IMC office.
The gardener identified as Laishram Khogendro, 46, son of late Kunjabihari of Khangempali Huidrom Leikai, speaking to media persons, said that he was manhandled and threatened by two councillors of IMC identified as Subashchandra, councillor of ward number 16 of Singjamei Chingamakha and Laishram Arilkumar, councillor of ward number 4 of Uripok, after calling him inside the office chamber of IMC chairperson.
Narrating the incident to media persons, Laishram Khogendro said that he arrived at his office yesterday at around 11 am. After reaching office he checked his cell phone and saw two missed calls from councillor Subashchandra and in the meantime Subaschndra called up again, which he answered.
Subashchandra made the calls to enquire whether the peon has arrived at office or no, as the peon was not available the answer to him was negative, he said.
But Subashchandra keeps calling on his cell phone enquiring about the peon and later he ignored his calls as the peon did not turn up at the office, he said.
He further said that when he was working at the front office he was called upon by councillor Subashchandra and was taken inside the councillor’s office room. “Inside the room, councillor Subashchandra threatened him, scolded him with abusive words and even manhandled him for not answering his calls,” he claimed.
The other councillor Laishram Arilkumar was there in the room when these things had happened but he did not intervened, he decried.
Speaking to media persons, IMC Chairperson N Raghumani termed the incident unfortunate and said that he condemn it and gave his assurance that no such incidents will happen in the future.
