Dy CM laments prolonged absence of chiefs from villages

IMPHAL, November 30: State Deputy Chief Minister Gaikhangam was today felicitated at Nirmala Hotel by the Longpi Area Chiefs Association, Nungba Tamenglong District.

The chiefs’ association also submitted a memorandum to the Dy CM for the construction of an Inter Village Road within the 22 village of the area.

The chiefs’ association has apprised the Dy CM who also holds the portfolio of the Home department that the area is lacking behind in even the basic amenities of education, electricity and connectivity.

Speaking at the function, Dy CM Gaikhangam said development works in the area are in progress like installation of solar lamps, water supply under rural water supply scheme.

He continued that even though the said facilities in the memorandum are available in the area, due to lack of proper maintenance the facilities cannot be used today.

Regarding construction of roads, the government will take up work on a phase-wise basis under the Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojna, he said.

Meanwhile, the Dy CM also lamented that many of the village authorities of the hill districts are present in the state capital ignoring the welfare of their villages.

Since the leaders who are supposed to address the problems of their villages are not present, then how will there be any development, he said.

He opined that the need of the hour is not just to wait for government monitoring of the villagers’ problems but for the villagers and their leaders to point out the problems and try to understand and confront it together.

He said the leaders should come to the state capital but only when it is necessary and should also return to their respective villages and take stock of their villages’ problems.

Meanwhil, the Deputy Chief Minister Gaikhangam was also felicitated by people of Dimdailong, Imphal East in a seperate programme which was held at Dimdailong, New Checkon.   

The Minister was accompanied by his wife Adiliu. The function was also attended by MLA of Tamenglong AC, Janghemlung Panmei and MLA of Tamei AC, Z Pou Z Kikhonbou Newmai. 

Speaking at the function, Gaikhangam said, the Zeliangrong people have always stood against the people who try to break the integrity of Manipur. People like Kabui Salang Maiba, Thangal General, Rani Gaidinlu and Haipou Zadongnang have given great contribution in the history of Manipur. The today’s generation should always remember the contribution of their forefather and should work for the development of the state.

“We should not do things which will destroy our own future. We the hill and valley are children of the same mother,” he added.
